Abstract

This talk is intended to be given to the general audiences that have college degrees or study at undergraduate schools in engineering or non-engineering areas, to let them have a basic understanding of what power electronics is. Power electronics is firstly described and explained with different levels of definitions, from different view-points, and through a simple example. Then the possible application areas of power electronics are extensively discussed. In the end, a review of the developing trends for electric energy systems is presented, followed by a discussion about the overall challenges in fundamental methods and techniques to power electronics. It turns out that power electronics, as the state-of-the-art technology for energy harnessing, is taking us into a new era of humankind.

本演讲面向的是具有大学学士学位或者正在大学本科学习的工程或非工程专业一般听众，以使他们对什么是电力电子技术有一个基本了解。首先，演讲将依据不同层次的定义、不同侧面的观点以及一个简单的例子来描述并解释电力电子技术的概念。其次，演讲将详细讨论电力电子技术的可能应用领域。最后，演讲将逐一阐述这些变革之下电能系统的发展趋势，以及这些发展趋势对电力电子技术带来的挑战。作为人类所掌握的驾驭能量的最新技术，电力电子技术正引领我们进入人类发展的一个崭新时代。

Speaker Bio

Jinjun Liu received a B.S. degree in industrial automation and a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), Xi’an, China, in 1992 and 1997, respectively.He then joined the XJTU Electrical Engineering School as a faculty. From late 1999 to early 2002, he was with the Center for Power Electronics Systems, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, USA, as a Visiting Scholar. In late 2002, he was promoted to a Full Professor and then the Head of the Power Electronics and Renewable Energy Center at XJTU, which now comprises 21 faculty members and over 150 graduate students and carries one of the leading power electronics programs in China. From 2005 to early 2010, he served as an Associate Dean of Electrical Engineering School at XJTU, and from 2009 to early 2015, the Dean for Undergraduate Education of XJTU. He is currently a XJTU Distinguished Professor of Power Electronics.

刘进军教授分别于1992年和1997年获得西安交通大学工业自动化学士学位和电气工程博士学位。他随后留校在电气工程学院任教。从1999年底到2002年初，他在美国弗吉尼亚理工大学电力电子系统研究中心作访问学者。2002年他晋升为正教授，随后开始领导西安交通大学电力电子与新能源技术研究中心。该中心发展至今已拥有21名教师和超过150名研究生，承载着中国最领先的高校电力电子学科之一。2005年到2010年初，他兼任西安交通大学电气工程学院副院长。2009年到2015年初，兼任学校教务处处长。他现在是西安交通大学电力电子技术领军学者特聘教授。
