Jae Kyu Lee, Ph.D., is Distinguished Professor of the School of Management, Xi’an Jiaotong University and Professor Emeritus of Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). He is the LEO Award Winner (2020) and a fellow and past president (2015-6) of the Association for Information Systems. The founder of Bright Internet, he established the Bright Internet Global Summit (BIGS) and Bright Internet Project Consortium. He was a professor and HHI Chair Professor at KAIST from 1985 to 2016 after receiving a Ph.D. in Information and Operations Management from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. His research areas are the Bright Internet, E-commerce, and AI for managerial decision support. Abstract

The Bright Internet Research Center at Xi’an Jiaotong University has conducted the development of Bright Internet 1.0 Test Bed for two years with four industry partners and two university partners. The Bright Internet aims to preventively mitigate the origins of cybersecurity threats without infringing on the privacy of innocent users.

To fulfill this goal, Bright Internet research tested the potential possibility of eliminating outbound spam mail from innocent origins. Surprisingly, we found that controlling outbound spam mails are 100 times more effective than protecting inbound spam mails from a social cost point of view. This talk presents the architecture of Bright Internet 1.0 and its performance. It includes the Organizational Certification Program of Bright Origins and Individual Certification of Bright eMails that can lead to receivers’ trust.

This talk discusses Bright Internet research issues from the Design Science perspective of platform development and the Quasi-Experiments perspective of effectiveness.

西安交通大学光明互联网研究中心与4家行业合作伙伴和2家大学合作伙伴进行了为期两年的光明互联网1.0测试台的开发。光明互联网的目标是在不侵犯无辜用户隐私的情况下,预防性地减轻网络安全威胁的起源。

为了实现这一目标,Bright Internet研究测试了消除来自无害来源的发送垃圾邮件的潜在可能性。令人惊讶的是,从社会成本的角度来看,控制向外发送的垃圾邮件比保护向内发送的垃圾邮件有效100倍。本次讲座介绍了光明互联网1.0的架构和性能。它包括组织认证计划的光明起源和个人认证光明电子邮件,可以导致接收者的信任。

本讲座从平台开发的设计科学视角和有效性的准实验视角讨论光明互联网的研究问题。
