On the morning of May 21, Professor Wang Baomin, the director of the Research Center of Legislation and Intra-party Regulations, lectured on The Chinese Anti-corruption Storm: How does it work?
Professor Wang first talked about the definition of corruption, i.e., “corruption is dishonesty and illegal behavior by people in positions of authority or power”. Then he explained why anti-corruption should be carried out. He said that corruption can seriously damage society, for example, it “endangers the Party’s ruling position and the people’s democratic regime”, “adversely affects the economic and social development of our country” and “undermines social justice and affects social stability, posing a significant threat to building a harmonious society”. Professor Wang introduced the commitment of our nation to anti-corruption and clarified the judgment, action, principle and target of anti-corruption. He concluded by summarizing four ways that our nation has used to combat corruption: “caging power by legal system”, “establishing a centralized, unified, authoritative and efficient national supervision institution with Chinese characteristics”, “implementing strictly anti-corruption State Laws and Intra-party Regulations” and implementing “innovative anti-corruption measures”.
Professor Wang explained the basic theory, legal provisions and its practical significance and methods of anti-corruption with easy-to-understand expressions, helping all attendees have an in-depth understanding of the anti-corruption system and its operation.
