Mark Western

Mark Western is Professor of Sociology and Director of the Institute for Social Science Research at the University of Queensland. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia, and a Chief Investigator on the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Children and Families Over the Life Course. The Institute for Social Science Research is a multidisciplinary research institute that investigates issues in social and public policy with governments, NGOs and business. Its researchers include sociologists, psychologists, economists, public policy specialists, public health researchers, anthropologists, architects, epidemiologists, neuroscientists, statisticians and data scientists. Mark Western’s research interests include social stratification, mobility and inequality, research methods, sociology of education, research policy, research to policy engagement, and social networks and subjective wellbeing.
