Lecture 16 The Story of Metal Hospital

Abstract

Metal components are often subjected to cyclic stress during their long-term survice; which inevitably results in fatigue failure in industry. Nowadays, fatigue failure becomes the most important failure mode for various engineering components. During failure analysis of components, in order to explore the reliability of those components, they further carried out the fatigue damage mechanisms and fatigue life prediction, fracture mechanisms and strength theory. At present a “Hospital of Metals” has been built and it has the similar function with the real hospital: outpatient clinic­—failure analysis; physical examination—mechanical evaluation; fortune-telling—fatigue life prediction; prolong life—anti-fatigue technology.

金属构件在长期服役过程中经受反复的应力作用而不可避免地造成疲劳失效,疲劳失效已经成为工程构件最重要的失效方式之一。在开展构件失效分析过程中,为了提高关键构件可靠性,进一步深入开展金属材料疲劳损伤机制与寿命预测、断裂机制与强度理论研究,逐步建立了一个能够分析关键构件失效原因、金属材料与关键构件寿命预测与抗疲劳延寿技术工艺的研究团队—金属医院,它初步具备了真实医院的主要的功能:门诊—失效分析、体检—力学评价、算命—疲劳寿命预测、延寿—抗疲劳技术。

Speaker Bio

Zhfefeng ZHANG, PhD, Professor/Doctoral supervisor at Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is the vice-Chairman and Secretary-general of the Fatigue Society in Chinese Society for Materials Research; the Special Allowance Winner of State Council. He was awarded by the National Outstanding Youth Fund in 2006 and Young and middle-aged science and technology innovation leaders of the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2014.

      张哲峰:博士,中国科学院金属研究所研究员/博士生导师,中国材料研究学会疲劳分会副理事长/秘书长,国务院政府特殊津贴获得者,国家杰出青年基金获得者,科技部中青年科技创新领军人才。
